So, this past weekend we made a drive out to St. Louis for Dan's 20 year high school reunion. Wow...20 years...we're old! I say "we" because, I'm not far behind. My 20 year reunion would be in 3 years. But this isn't about me, it's about our trip to St. Louis, our time with Dan's friends from High School, and our time and stay with grandma and grandpa. The kids, especially K and J, were super excited for our trip. The most exciting part of it was getting to play in grandma and grandpa's basement--go figure!! You're probably thinking, "a basement, probably unfinished, is what they were most excited about??" Yes, but not just any basement. It was grandma and grandpa's basement that, while unfinished, is filled with tons of fun things to do. There are bikes, trikes, desks, colors, dress up clothes, and lots of running/riding space.
Friday was a fun day of hanging out with grandparents. We enjoyed a nice family breakfast, and then headed out to the Museum of Transportation (or maybe it was the "train museum") We saw lots of big engines, and got to tour one of the old passenger trains, which was very very interesting. That evening was daddy's first organized event with the reunion crowd, so he, N and I headed out on a fun date. K, J and O spent the evening with grandma and grandpa. They were so excited, they couldn't get rid of us fast enough and kept asking "what time are you going?" So, we finally did. What a fun night, and it wasn't even my reunion, so I know D had fun too seeing old classmates and catching up. Some of them, he hadn't seen since the 10 year reunion, and others since our wedding 7 years ago. We began the night at a get together at one of Dan's friend's house who was having people over before hitting the pub. I think everyone was a bit concerned that the pub would be too crowded, seeing as it was located downtown, and the Cardinals were playing in town that night. Turned out not to be too bad, because we did finally make it out to the pub and it was "do-able" :). N did great, and even got to be passed around and be held by loving friends. He did finally zonk out, I think all the partying did eventually get to him.
Saturday was more a family oriented event, which was fun because we not only got to spend it playing with the kids outside, but we also got to meet other's kiddos. There was a tour of new high school campus, which by the way, does not look like a high school....I walked in and thought it was a college campus. It is HUGE and very fancy. Following the tour there was a lunch outside and then a soccer and football game to watch. The kids LOVED, absolutely LOVED watching soccer. K was full of questions about what team we wanted to win, and what their mascot was, and why they were wearing the color they were wearing, and what school they were playing, and why the goalie did what he did, and why the goalie had on a different color, and why everyone on our side of the stands was rooting for one school, and why there was no one there rooting for the other team (she couldn't see the crowd on the other side), and when could she play soccer like that team...it was endless. J just watched, he quietly enjoyed the game and cheered when it was appropriate. Little O kept yelling out "go go go" and "ball" at the teams. It was great...did I mention they LOVED watching soccer!! I was impressed by how well they all sat, and paid attention to the game. Little N slept through the whole ordeal. We left shortly after the football game started, as the kids "fuss" gauge was only going up, up and up...
Saturday evening the kids stayed with a sitter. Thanks to grandma handbone for finding such a nice and sweet lady to watch over the kids while D and I (and N) went out to the dinner with the crowd, and grandma and grandpa got out to their 50th high school reunion. Grandma looked very elegant, and grandpa very handsome as they drove off to their reunion. D and I (and N) spent the evening eating yummy food and enjoying great company of friends at a nice restaurant. There was a fun slideshow that was shown before dinner that was hilarious to watch...I just hope no one ever finds any of my high school pictures with the peacock hair, and rolled up jeans and all that "in" stuff from when I was in HS that I'm sure is so "OUT" these days. :) How did N do, you might ask? Well, let's just say the child was partied out the night before and he slept quietly in his carseat the entire evening, despite of all the noise around him.
Our time in St. Louis was fun, and too short. When we were heading out, K asked "why are we leaving now, if we just got here?" yep, it was short and it went by very quickly but even in that short time we built lots of fun memories that we will hold onto for a lifetime...
I do have pictures, I just have not downloaded them from the camera....coming soon.
