So...with somewhat excitement, and a knot still stuck in my throat i have to share that my little girl has begun her academic journey; her first day of preschool was today! It is hard to believe that she's nearly 5 now...seems like only yesterday I was holding her little tiny 5lbs 5ozs being in my arms for the very first time. Over the last, nearly, 5 years she has gone through major changes, both physically, and emotionally. She's grown so much, which is to say to the least, but I still look at her, and see my little baby!! Guess, she'll never really "grow" up in my eyes. The journey she embarked on this morning brought tears to my eyes, which is silly to say--for goodness sake's she's only in pre-k, right?? yet, somehow this is a BIG thing to me. Yes, she's only 'almost' 5, in pre-school, and she's only going 3 days a week, and she comes right back home to me in the afternoons. At the same time, I feel like it's the beginning of letting her go, of giving her some independence, and trusting that she will follow God's will. I have to trust that she's under His constant care, and guidance; that's we've done a good job setting some foundation for her to take direction and instruction from others aside from mommy and daddy; as well helping her build self confidence and courage to go out there and not be afraid to meet people and make new friends; to interact with them having some independence in her thinking and maintaining to the values that we are setting before her.
So to tell you a bit about her first day...what a whirlwind of a morning!! Whew, am I ever so glad to be done with that chaos. Mind you, we had no problem being at school on time, it was the fact that mommy had not turned in immunization records. So, after getting Katherine, and all of us so excited about dropping her off at school, I had to turn around and get in the car with all 3 kids...yes, that includes Katherine, to go pick up immunization records. They would not allow her to stay until they had those records on file. So, needless to say I'm running around with 3 kids in tow trying to pick up records, as well as a letter from the oncology clinic explaining why she is not completely up to date on all her immunizations. She finally did make it to school this morning, only an hour late! Joshua was a bit saddened...I'm not sure if it was because he couldn't stay to play or because we were leaving his big sister in school and he was going to feel lonely without her play buddy. I think it's the latter!! We did survive our morning sans big sister and were very excited when we made it back to school to pick her up in the afternoon. The boys and I did run some errands while Katherine was at school, and I found myself feeling incomplete without my little girl. I'd turn around looking for Katherine, and had to remind myself several times that she was not with me, but that she was safe and in school. What a weird feeling!!
